Call of Duty: Vanguard has been out for a while, and nearly every lobby has Prestiged players running around with their maxed-out weapons. If you’re still struggling at the lower levels, here are some tips that will help you grind out that XP faster and unlock some of the best guns this game has to offer.
Clan up
First things first: make sure you’re part of a Clan. It doesn’t even have to be a good clan, because just playing with clan members grants you a 10 per cent player XP, weapon XP and operator XP boost all the time. Now, why would you leave all that XP on the table?
Track challenges
Challenges in most COD games involve fulfilling requisites like “killing an X number of enemies while crouched” or “killing enemies with executions”. Most of the time, you’ll unlock them as you play, but to make sure you’re hitting them all, keep checking the challenges tab regularly in the multiplayer menu.
This is my gun
In Vanguard, every operator has a favourite gun and playing with that gun will grant you weapon XP as well as operator XP, so if the MP40 is your weapon of choice, make sure you switch to Halima to maximise XP gain.
Play modes that shower you with XP
Search and Destroy is a favourite for most hardcore fans, but as sweaty and intense as that mode is, it doesn’t net you a lot of XP. With respawning disabled, if you don’t perform well during your one life, you’ll leave the match with a paltry amount of XP. If you really want to rake in that XP, play modes like Domination and Hardpoint, where you net points for kills as well as playing the objective. Also make sure you have the blitz pacing selected as that offers the most XP with matches that boast of 14-36 players.
Level up weapons in zombies
So you’ve unlocked a meta weapon, but are getting absolutely shredded since it kicks like a mule or doesn’t have the necessary attachments. If playing with that weapon is getting frustrating in multiplayer, switch over to zombies, since killing zombies allows you to level up that weapon. This, in turn, unlocks more and more attachments. You can then take that upgraded weapon back to MP and start melting fools.
Use XP tokens as you get them
Vanguard’s first season kicks off in December, but if you own the Battlepass in Warzone, it shows up in Vanguard as a pre-season Battlepass. Playing through Vanguard unlocks ranks in that Battlepass – and even if you don’t own it, XP tokens are given out at certain levels. Keep an eye out for those and make sure you switch them on before you head into a long session. Be warned though; the XP token counts off in real time – and not in-game time – so if you start an hour’s worth of weapon XP and log off in ten minutes, it’s wasted.
