Far Cry 6 transports players to a massive and absolutely gorgeous fictional topical island, but Yara is as dangerous as it is beautiful – especially when you’re going up against a ruthless dictator. But don’t worry; with our Far Cry 6 guide, you’ll be an effective resistance fighter in no time.
Supremos are life
Far Cry 6’s supremos are akin to a super attack, and once they’re fully charged, you can use them to unleash total chaos during combat. Different supremos offer different ultimate abilities – and more importantly, passive bonuses that can complement and enhance your playstyle. So, if your playstyle leans more toward stealth, choose a supremo that can disable alarms and tanks, or one that turns enemies against one another. The passives on that supremo can be used to be even sneakier, so you’ll have more slots to equip throwing knives or smoke grenades. On the other hand, if running and gunning is your vibe, you can go for a supremo that will unleash a barrage of rockets or burn your enemies to the ground. The passive slot for that supremo will allow you to stock up on more grenades, dynamite sticks, etc.
But supremos aren’t just lying around; you have to buy them from a vendor using depleted uranium – a rare commodity found in heavily guarded areas. So before you fully get invested in the game’s plot, we would advise farming some of these resources so you can unlock powerful and diverse supremos.
Cleaning out Yaran air space
Yara is massive and while you’ll use fast travel a lot, you can only use it to reach areas you’ve unlocked or liberated. Sure, you could drive to your objective, but flying is even faster. However, you won’t be able to do this if there are any anti-aircraft weapons in that area, so if you do plan on spending some time in a particular region, your first order of business should be to take out the AA guns. You can then move around the skies free as a bird, be it in your chopper, plane or wingsuit.
Buy things that go Boom!
Even if stealth is your preferred playstyle, you can’t escape all-out combat in Far Cry 6. There will be times when you mess up and an entire base gets alerted and calls for backup. Or some missions just throw a curveball at you and half the Yaran army lands up at your doorstep with tanks and choppers. At these times, your silenced pistol isn’t really going to do much; your best bet would be an RPG or grenade launcher. So save those Yaran Pesos and buy one as soon as you can.
Don’t sleep on base building
We know what you’re thinking. Who has the time to build bases in a Far Cry game! Hear us out though: base building in FC6 offers a number of passive abilities that could really help you out. Some of these offer more soldier support on the ground, while some permanently boost your health and stamina. Keep in mind though; base building – as well as upgrading your arsenal – needs resources, so make sure you always have spare mats on hand.
Pay attention to ammo
Far Cry 6 is the first Far Cry game where you’ll have to pay attention to your ammo type, since different bullet variants offer different benefits. Regular bullets won’t really damage heavily armoured enemies, and since you’ll be facing a lot of them, it makes sense to equip armour piercing bullets on your primary. Ammo in Far Cry 6 also has different abilities, so some bullets can set enemies on fire, while some can turn them against one another. Experiment to see which one fits your playstyle best.
Always have a backup
Guerrilla fighters don’t have the deepest pockets, so before you unlock the really good stuff, you’ll have to make do with homemade gear like suppressors made out of plastic tubes. These low quality suppressors do tend to overheat after a few shots, after which your weapon will go loud. So if you’re playing stealthy, make sure you carry a backup suppressed weapon or a bow and arrow that’s always silent.
