Hitman 3
From linear action-heavy games to massive open-ended playgrounds to mobile strategy games, the Hitman franchise has done it all. With 2016’s reboot, IO interactive introduced a massive interactive sandbox to play around in, where players could use all sorts of innovative ways to take out their targets. Hitman 3 follows that same philosophy, offering bigger levels and even more dastardly ways to take your foes out. And as we move into 2022, the developer has announced an entire year’s worth of content for this game, including graphical improvements like ray-tracing and DLSS support.
Outriders
Outriders is a third-person, action RPG game much like Diablo or Borderlands, where you are constantly being rewarded with loot. You can team up with two other friends and experience the sci-fi heavy campaign as you play as the last remaining Outrider looking to find a safe place for all humanity on a hostile planet. Once you’re done with the campaign, test your gear and your skill in Expeditions, smaller stand-alone missions with tougher enemies and better rewards. And only once you feel immensely powerful, tackle the Eye of the Storm, this game’s ultimate test.
Days Gone
Days Gone isn’t a new game; it was in fact released for the PlayStation 4 in 2019, but 2021 was the first time PC gamers could experience and enjoy Sony Bend’s take on the open-world post-apocalyptic setting. You play as Deacon St. John, a biker who braves the wild – and all the nasty zombies hiding in it – to locate the love of his life. The game presents players with an open-ended structure where most missions can be played any way you’d like, and complementing your playstyle is a skill tree that can boost Deacon’s skills to survive the hostile world.
The Dark Pictures Anthology: House of Ashes
The Dark Pictures Anthology – like many of developer Supermassive Games’ previous titles – is an interactive cinematic experience as opposed to a conventional third-person action game. In the third part of this anthology called House of Ashes, you play as both American and Iraqi soldiers as they find themselves trapped in an ancient temple during the Iraq War. Unfortunately for them, this temple is crawling with hostile beings who aren’t very welcoming. Choose wisely as your choices not only determine how the narrative plays out, but they also dictate who lives and who dies.
Aliens: Fireteam Elite
Aliens: Fireteam Elite is a third-person cooperative shooter that takes place in the Alien universe. The game takes place nearly two decades after the events of Aliens 3 as you step into the boots of a Colonial Marine who must eradicate the Xenomorph menace after receiving a distress call from an infested colony. The game offers players six diverse classes, including a heavy chaingun-wielding Gunner, a team healing Medic, a turret-wielding Technician, and more. You can also equip and upgrade skills like drones and turrets to help with the eradication of the alien menace.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits
Kena: Bridge of Spirits is a third-person action adventure in which you play as Kena, who guides the souls of the recently departed as they move from the physical to the spiritual realm. As morbid as the plot sounds, the game looks like a colourful Pixar movie in video game form. Kena plays like an old-school title in which you’ll spend a lot of your time solving puzzles and platforming. During combat encounters, Kena can use a staff that doubles up as a bow to be proficient at both close-quarters and ranged battles.
