Saints Row, the third-person, open-world action game from developer Volition, has been delayed to August 23, 2022.
Announced at Gamescom 2021, Saints Row is a reboot to the Saints Row franchise and sees an all-new younger cast take on the mantle of the Third Street Saints. The game was initially slated for a February 2022 release but has been delayed due to the pandemic.
In an official statement, Jim Boone, CEO of Volition, said, “Our priority is to create the best Saints Row game yet and, if we released on the original date, it wouldn’t be up to the standards we’ve set ourselves, and that you’re expecting and deserve. The team just need more time to do our vision justice; we’re doing some fine tuning and there won’t be much change in the game outside of overall quality and polish.
In all honesty, we underestimated the impact COVID would have on our schedule, although everyone adapted very quickly to the working from home arrangement and continued to be incredibly productive. However, due to the size and scope of our new Saints Row, it’s become apparent that to create the best game possible, we need to give our team longer to perfect their craft,” Boone added.
When Saints Row was first unveiled, the announcement garnered a fair amount of criticism due to its more youth-centric approach that replaced older fan-favourites. Boone also states that this delay will not affect the story or characters in any way, and that Volition will be continuing its vision for Saints Row as intended.
Saints Row will be available exclusively on the Epic Games Store.
