Part of what makes video games so beautiful for many of us is the freedom to explore uncharted worlds and figure out their rules for ourselves. Very often though – as is the case in New World – the game can be just too vast and deep, making us feel lost and clueless. If all of this sounds familiar to you, do not fret. We’ve got your back! Here are five tips to make your time in New World that much more fun, while ensuring you don’t waste too much time on things that aren’t important.
Try out as many weapons as you can
What makes New World different from almost every MMO out there is the fact that there are no classes or roles that you have to stick to. Your role depends on your weapons, stats, build and gear, all of which can be changed at any time. This frees you up to try as many weapons as you want without any penalty. The game even lets you roll back all your attributes for free until level 20. Use this time well and try out each weapon that tickles your fancy.
Set quest circuits up for yourself
Quest circuits are easy to set up once you know how. Pick up every town project quest, side quest, main quest and faction quest once you go to a new town. This should light up your mini map with a bunch of markers. Pin these to your screen for easy tracking. Then find an efficient route through them and clear them all at once. This will save you a lot of travel time as a lot of these quests are stacked in the same area or next to each other. It’s by far the most efficient method to level up.
Play the game your way
Your journey from level 1 to 60 will be long and full of peril. The good news is that there are many ways to level up. Everything you do, from killing monsters or clearing dungeons, to fishing and making furniture, will earn you experience. Find out what activities you love and focus on those, otherwise the game can get quite arduous and boring. There is no need to grind in any way that is not fun for you, so do what you love and enjoy yourself!
Join a company
There are many quests that need more than one player to complete. There are also quests where you’ll need you to find rare items that could take ages. Find yourself a good company (the game’s equivalent of a guild) and you’re sure to get help from a lot of fellow players. Companies also work together to wage wars and participate in Pve invasions, which are the game’s version of large-scale battles. This is a lot of fun if you’re into that sort of stuff. Keep an eye on your company chat and find out when they need you. It’s good to be part of something bigger than yourself and knowing that others have your back.
Don’t be afraid to buy new gear
It’s quite tempting to hoard up all your coin and feel super rich. Don’t fall prey to this temptation! Instead, use your coin liberally. Buy upgrades for your character whenever you can, whether it’s new weapons or armour with better stats. You’ll find it much easier to take on difficult fights with a shiny new sword in your hand rather than a bunch of coin in your purse. Learn how to use the trading post – you’re bound to find incredible gear for peanuts. Remember: one man’s trash is another man’s gold.
While all these tips are great to get you started, there is one more thing that’s more important than anything else. New World is a massively multiplayer game, with its greatest resource being people. Polish your people skills and be polite. Do not be a jerk to new players and help others whenever you can.
See you in Aeternum!
