Deathloop isn’t the easiest of games to get into, but with these tips and tricks straight outta Updaam, you’ll become a master assassin in no time.
Farm it like it’s hot
Residuum is your primary currency in Deathloop and is used to infuse everything you pick up, be it trinkets or weapons. To infuse items in Deathloop basically means adding that particular item to your inventory permanently, because if you begin a new day without infusing your favourite gear, it’ll all get destroyed. And the reason we recommend farming runs for Residuum is because infusion is not cheap. Slabs (and their upgrades) take 15,000 while weapons and trinkets take around 8,000, so if you don’t have enough Residuum lying around, you’ll have to make some tough choices before you begin a new day.
Farm bosses to upgrade slabs
Every target in Deathloop drops a slab that grants Colt supernatural abilities. This could be anything from the ability to air dash to turning invisible to dishing out a ton of damage. Now, the game has a layer of unpredictability when it comes to weapons, but every boss will always drop the same slab every time. If you like that particular ability, farm that boss to be able to upgrade that slab. For example, if one boss drops invisibility, killing that same boss will allow you to stay invisible longer. And if that works with your playstyle, fully upgrade your slab’s power before moving to the next one.
Play smart, at least at the start
As you begin your journey to end the loop, Colt is super squishy, and can die at the drop of a hat. You’ll get three chances to finish a level, but let’s say you lose all those lives, you’ll lose everything you haven’t bound to your inventory. So early on, find a silenced weapon ASAP and then play the game extremely carefully till you earn powerful weapons and upgrades. After you’ve upgraded some abilities and trinkets, be as reckless as you’d like.
Work on specific builds
Deathloop can seem daunting at first with the amount of powers, weapons and trinkets at your disposal. The trick is to not get overwhelmed by the sheer amount of choice and slowly work on your build as per your playstyle. So there’s no need to equip a shotgun and invest in trinkets that buff Colt’s health and damage if you’re playing in a stealthy way. In that case, it would make sense to make a build that involves invisibility, faster power regeneration, and some sort of silenced weapon.
Disable real life invasions until you’re stronger
By default, in-game invasions are enabled in Deathloop. This means players can invade your game as Julianna and make life tough. And if you aren’t rocking some solid gear, this can be especially frustrating, because you’ll have to deal with a human player in addition to the boss and his or her minions. We recommend going into the Settings menu and turning this off till you’re well equipped to deal with pesky invaders.
Protect the loop (as Julianna)
On the other hand, if you love invading players as Julianna, don’t get too carefree in your approach either. Choose items that complement your playstyle just like you do with Colt. Also, before you enter the level, prepare for skirmishes that may occur at range or at closer quarters. If you’re playing against an especially sneaky Colt, try and lay traps around obvious places, like the entry and exit points in the map, or close to the target. Most importantly, be patient.
Pay attention… to EVERYTHING
Deathloop is a game that offers players a tremendous amount of freedom. And the best way to take advantage of this freedom is to pay attention to everything and everyone around you. Pay attention to grunt dialogue, notes or even voice messages left all over the map. These could lead to locations of super awesome weapons, and/or events that may make eliminating targets much easier. In some cases, two targets could be meeting up at a common spot, which makes life much easier for you. After all, if you need to eliminate eight targets in one day, you’ll need all the help you can get.
